Can anyone shed some light on Axtronix PTZ 1000 camera setup?  Evidently Axtronix can't.  They have an email support address, but can't seem to answer it.  I have 2 PTZ 1000, 2 BU30 baluns (for cat5 cabling) and RS232 /485 converter for serial port connection.  Have tried Pelco d and Pelco P dp settings, but cannot get  the camera's to respond. Video signal from camera works, but no mechanical functions ...Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Focus, etc. The text typed instructions were cryptic at best . Pretty expensive still cameras.

After about 15 minutes of checking I would say these people, Axtronix, really don't want anyone to have a manual on their cameras.

I would say more about the company and their products but you may already feel bad enough about the purchase.

What I did find said the PTZ 1000 supported Pelco D and P so my advice would be as follows. Hook up the camera right there at the DVR. Don’t use the baluns as that’s just another thing to troubleshoot.  If you still get no PTZ control from either camera call the DVR manufacturer and tell them you must be missing something in their setup as the cameras are connected and support Pelco D.

Going forward I would recommend buying the cameras and the DVR from the same vendor. I know Camera Security Now only sells products, like PTZ cameras, they have tested as being compatible with their GeoVision DVR systems.

From what I see these people export direct from Hong Kong and if your DVR supplier can not help with this problem that will make for a pretty expensive fixed camera.

For anyone else out there who purchased an Axtronix PTZ 1000 camera; Keep the directions they send you just for reference on what not to do.  Manual says Dp settings All on for PelcoD...NOPE..DP settings all off - except camera ID.  Forget the 9600 baud rate- 2400 works. At least with mine.  Also, make sure your boards are all wired the same, I purchased 2 cams and both were wired differently.  I got my help from a link to Berkley's Seti Project Believe it or not. If anyone has any questions, I can email the link. It has good pictures. I do not know how long it will be posted.

Wow.. So the cameras did not come set to the default settings as listed in the manual. Nice.

It's amazing that you found some help on the SETI site. Perhaps ET uses Axtronix as well. LOL

Thanks for the update and good luck!

Maybe you can help me.  I think I found the pictures you were talking about on Berkley's Seti Project but I dont think my PTZ is wired correctley.  It looks like it is receiveing a signal because the light blinks on the board when I press any functions on my keyboard but my camera will not move.  Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Hitachi123,

Thanks for the post.

As we have yet to find any documentation or support numbers for this camrea we will have to sit tight and hope another user with that model can give some advice.

Hitachi123,
Be sure to set your baud rate for cam and controller to 2400. You should have a solid red light on cam for power on. I am running from PC instead of controller, so I have baluns, 232/485 adapter and Cat 6 cable setup.  Be sure your camera ID's match on controller and camera as well.

Hi

Actually as you know pretty much all the ptz cameras work with similar setup. First i would make sure your dvr supports the ptz protocol you have on hand . After that i would check on these things to make sure everything is set correctly.
-PTZ is powered up with right power source
-Protocol is set to the one dvr supports
-Id number is set from the ptz correctly and matches the dvr
-Pelco D usually works with 2400, Pelco P with 9600 baud rate
-most PTZ s have default settings but these settings can all be changed form the PTZ side, like protocol, baud rate, id. You have to make sure your ids also match.
-it does not matter if the ptz is ip or analog. Balun, catv, cat6, bnc, etc.
Having a control issue is related to the programming of the ptz with the dvr on the correct settings. It is also a possibility that you connected the wires wrong way. Make sure that you are putting the wires in the right spot on the dvr and ptz like TX+ and TX- for RS485
I had to spend 2 days on two ptzs that i could not have control with my dvr because they were already set to autoscan and i did not have the controller. in that two days i had to check every little detail, so i know the frustration. Good luck.
Pray and your prayer will be answered.
