For the first time Microsoft is not asking if you would like to download its new updates.  According to this article about Stealth Updates, Microsoft did a force download and install of new updates for both Windows Vista and XP.  This has upset many of its users as they feel it is an invasion of privacy.

The list of new files put on your PC from the update includes,

Vista:
  • wuapi.dll
  • wuapp.exe
  • wuauclt.exe
  • wuaueng.dll
  • wucltux.dll
  • wudriver.dll
  • wups.dll
  • wups2.dll
  • wuwebv.dll

XP SP2:

  • cdm.dll
  • wuapi.dll
  • wuauclt.exe
  • wuaucpl.cpl
  • wuaueng.dll
  • wucltui.dll
  • wups.dll
  • wups2.dll
  • wuweb.dll

Funny how people easily get upset with Microsoft. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

If there is a serious security problem, of course Microsoft woud want to provide that service for all computers. Otherwise we could have a virus outbreak.
