Site that publishes sensitive corporate and government files is taken down by provider after Microsoft files copyright claim over publication of one of its documents.

I agree with arwendt that the map in the article is interesting, though it makes me wonder if no one lives in Canada... :)
How does a person know if their own PC is infected and is one of these spambots? I use AVAST anti-virus and also run malware checks with malwarebytes on a regular basis, so I'm assuming I'm not "contributing" to this problem, but how does one confirm this?
