hi sellersk,
I used AVG Free for years, but then got a virus last year on one of my computers. I switched that computer to AVAST (also Free), and then switched my other computer to AVAST this year after it had a virus slip past AVG. I think AVG used to be the best, but now I'm a fan of AVAST. So far... so good. Fingers crossed. :D

I've heard nothing but good things about AVAST.  Once I reformat my system or get a new OS I'm definitely going to give it a try.  I'm currently using AVG and have no complaints.

Just thought I'd follow up on this and add that it addition to running AVAST anti-virus in the background all the time, I also recommend downloading and using malwarebytes.org. I'm not sure what the difference between a virus and malware is exactly, but malwarebytes has found and destroyed a fair amount of malware on my computer. It is also free, though I think they appreciate donations.
