Pentium processors have never broken the 4 GHZ barrier. According to a report by VR-Zone it is believed that Intel will finally hit the 4 GHZ barrier. The report says Bloomfield, one of Intel's upcoming 45nm quad-core processors based on the Nehalem architecture, will be clocked at speeds exceeding 4GHz when it comes out in 2008.
These new processors will use new sockets called Socket B and Socket H.

Wow.. As the chipmakers have done a lot in the last few years to increase performance and LOWER clock speeds I would imagine by the time they hit 4Ghz that chip will easily be the processing equal of 2 or 3 P4's from last year that ran in the mid 3.0Ghz range. |
